Join Globalstar and More than 100,000 at Mobile World Congress Barcelona

Over 100,000 people. That’s how many walked through the doors of Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress in 2024. They came from 205 countries and territories to see more than 2,700 exhibitors of the latest and greatest.

This year, what do you think will be the hottest exhibits at MWC? The fusion of AI and mobile will certainly be on display, with companies showcasing AI-driven products from virtual assistants to predictive analytics. Mixed reality, merging digital and physical worlds in real time, will draw crowds.  So will the emergence of 6G, the growth of IoT and the ever-rising demand for cybersecurity solutions that can protect the digital treasures these innovators are busy creating.

Network Speed and Capacity Like You’ve Never Seen

We have one more candidate for you. At Stand 2C74, Globalstar will demo technology offering wireless network speed and capacity unlike anything you have ever seen. It’s our XCOM RAN platform, a 3GPP compliant and Open RAN based programmable 5G solution, running Globalstar’s Band n53 midrange spectrum and we’ll demo it as the connectivity foundation for state-of-the-art manufacturing operations.

Unlike any other cellular technology, XCOM RAN is made up of remote radio units (RRUs) that, installed throughout a facility, create a single “supercell”. All radios transmit and receive coherently with no handovers and without interfering with each other, boosting signal strength to the user equipment (UE). In fact, each UE in the network reaches almost peak rates, because there can be no congestion in individual cells.

To make things even better, XCOM RAN runs on generic compute servers, which synchronize and calibrate the connections with the RRUs so that all are transmitting the same information at the same time on the same frequency. Once the system is synched, it exchanges streams of data with every UE, calibrating the parameters for each one separately.

Inside the Metal Maze

What is the XCOM RAN breakthrough important to you? Think about industrial spaces like warehouses, factories, ports and airports. They are complex metal mazes that block signals and generate interference, requiring higher signal resilience and much greater reliability than conventional cellular can manage. Right now, Globalstar is enabling autonomous mobile robot solutions to run at peak efficiency without interference. In this particular instance, handling that much data demands as much as 12 Mbps of connectivity per square meter of the facility. Getting that everywhere in the metal maze should be impossible – but not with XCOM RAN. Speed, capacity, resilience and cost-effectiveness – it’s all there in one technology.

Adding to its value is Band n53, a rare swath of mid-band spectrum that offers integrators, enterprises, governments and carriers a versatile, fully-licensed channel to improve their users’ wireless connectivity. Compared with the unlicensed or shared-licensed spectrum typically for private networks, it offers freedom from interference, more stable performance and greater range, coverage and speed. Globalstar currently licenses it across North America and in nine other nations, with more on the way.

What will be hot at MWC 2025? Private LTE/5G network deployments by integrators and carriers are set to accelerate 15x from 4,000 in 2022 to more than 60,000 in 2028. If you’re looking for a piece of that growth, XCOM RAN and Band n53 should be on your MWC hot list.

Globalstar’s live demo of XCOM RAN over Band n53 will be at the booth 2C74, and the schedule is:
